Wouldn't any number greater than zero be a crack price?

Everything has scrap value. So 50 bucks is a NP.

Idk. If it runs then it’s maybe worth $500

Yeah, but you’d have to get it smogged in California.

Already too much effort have I spent on that car.

$ 500 is fair.

CP, that is an ugly car.

There are VERY few vehicles I wouldn’t accept for free. This is one of them.

I don’t know if I’d say that. Nearly as much opportunity to use the shell for shenanigans as a Foxbody if one takes it out of Cali. Robust front suspension, and a not-entirely-terrible interior if you get new seat covers.

Not bad as a sleeper to be frank.

Rust free and complete car that’s easy to work on for $500? Hella NP. Around here, you’d easily pay that much for a stripped out roller Foxbody, and twice as much for a 200k mile V6 SN95 .

Who cares that it’s an undesirable year, it still has a ton of aftermarket support and can easily fit a 5.0 or better.

Maybe I’m a bit more partial to the ugly years, because I could never afford one of the desirable models, but it is still a Mustang, and it can still be a ton of fun.

I’m a little hazy on the smog rules in Cali, is it just emissions that need to be met, or does it also have to have stock parts?

I’d imagine a modern engine swap with a good set of cats would give a lot more power and a lot less emissions than the little V6 did when it was new.

It’s worth a bit more than scrap because of the relatively clean body, so $500 seems reasonable

If it has crack in it, technically any price you pay for it is a crack price.

Broadly speaking, one couldn’t do a swap *anywhere* in the US with an older engine and equipment than what it started with, due to EPA rules. Rules which enter a funny area anyway due to a swap to a newer engine than stock *including its equipment* being generally approved, but if that engine would entail removal of ditzy ‘70s bullshit (air pump, etc.) might that count as tampering with said equipment?

Practically speaking, few outside Cali would care. I suspect Cali for arcane reasons would demand original equipment in most cases, but I don’t know how observed that is.

For a “cheap bastard” swap, one could find an early 5.0 exploder and raid the engine and EFI , then buy whatever else was needed either junk or otherwise.

If all the bits are there and it isn’t rusty underneath, I think it can be worth $500 as a 24 hours of Lemons racer.

It could also be an interesting project car as well.

From what I understand, you could swap to something more modern so long as the newer engine was complete with ECU, exhaust, et cetera. You’d visit a smog referee and thereafter, the car is smogged as a car manufactured the year of the newer engine.

I think you can swap to a *complete* newer engine, jump through some flaming hoops while having arrows shot at you, and then have the car smogged as a vehicle of the year of the newer engine.
